I am looking for information please on my great great grandfather MARK RICHARD BASSETT who was reportedly a "travelling Tinker"..

He was born in 1836 (believed to be in shoreditch London.) was married to ANN GATES .. They had two daughters .. Laura and Rose..

I did find Britannia married to John Loveridge and living in Reading on the 1901 census with their children - Hilda, Phoebe, Leander, Alexander, and my grandfather Herbert Smith was also there aged 15 (living / visiting? ). Hilda was a witness at Herbert's wedding to Ethel Maude (my grandmother). Didn't know John and Britannia settled in Staines area.

Israel Smith ( Britannia's brother) also married a Loveridge, Charlotte, and I think she was John's sister.

Do you have any photo's of Britannia? I have a picture of her mother Phoebe outside her van with some of her children but have been unable to identify them all....one might be Britannia, I could send it to you if you like.

Still struggling to find out anything about Britannia's father Alexander Smith - would like to know who his parents were?

and also her mother Phoebe - census records say she was born in Reading and I know she settled in a cottage in St. Saviours Rd in Reading after Alexander died but I have no idea what family she was from. Would love to know more. Thanks again, Sue.

Apparently by word of mouth my great grandma was a romany gypsy but no-one seems to know much else. Her parents were called Elijah and Mary Ann Smith from the Farnborough area.

Elijah was taken in by a family named Penfolds and somehow related to a Boswell?

My great grandma was called Amy Smith and had siblings of Charlie, Rossetta, Mosey, Joe and Janie!!!!

Her parents are buried in Farnborough Cemetery.

Amy married a Driscoll (thats how I am connected).

I am doing research on Hampshire folksingers. Jane Cole and her sons Frank, Goliath, and Jesse sang to George B. Gardiner in 1908. They were then living at Oakley, but were at North Waltham in 1901 (RG13/1111/25/3). If any of your correspondents have information about or anecdotes on the Coles, or - still better - have photographs, I would like to hear from them. This project will lead to a series of presentations in Hampshire and a Hampshire 'folk map' like the one already produced for Somerset. Other gypsy families collected from in Hampshire included Albert Doe of Bartley, the two James Rays (father and son) in the Petersfield area, and Susan Mitchell, also at Petersfield.

HEDGES. I have been researching my Hedges Family since the early 1980's and have got back to WILLIAM HEDGES born abt. 1816 at Underriver Kent. I suspect he has 2 brothers JAMES HEDGES born abt. 1815 in Plumbsted, Kent and JOB HEDGES born abt. 1821 at Windsor, Eaton, Surrey. WILLIAM HEDGES decendants settled in Kent. While JAMES HEDGES family travelled Kent and Essex. Job HEDGES family traveled mostly in Essex and a little in Kent. I am looking for any information that will help me connect these three men as brothers. However all and any any information on the HEDGES family would be most welcome as I am very stuck.

Hi, i have been researching my family tree which is brilliant! I have got to 1778 name of Francais Doe, wife Amelia Early 1780. They stayed at Yags Lane, Lymington.They had about 10 children, one called William Doe 1807, wife Naomi Pateman 1809. I can't get any further than Francais Doe. It would be good if i can get some more information.

They Baptise their son Thomas Doe 1769, 19th Feb. Was woundering if this has any connection with Francais Doe, 1758. maybe Thomas was Francaise's brother.Francaise was married to Elizabeth Etherton (1st wife) then to Elizabeth Hedge, 1806.

I have another certificate for my wife's Nan, Charlotte TAYLOR, born 3 Jun 1941 in a caravan at Rose Cottage, Audley Road, Chesterton, Staffordshire, her dad is given as Abraham TAYLOR a domestic gardener.

Not sure if anyone can help me I'm looking into the family of Frankums that lived in St Mary district of Reading.

I've got a from 1901 Census William Thomas Frankum married to Jane living in Wolseley street he's a brick layer.

They have 4 daughters and 2 sons one is also called William Thomas Frankum who later married Rose Cowen.

I know William & Rose lived in Linden road he was a fish fryer in 1930.

Any information about the family would be great.

I'm looking for Henry Arthur Lane / Layne born c1876, an engine driver who died in 1945 of TB. I believe the name Lane / Layne originates from Londonderry, Ireland.

He married Annie Burke (1889) of Bethnal Green, London and had one daughter that I know of, Kathleen May Lane. Kathleen had a half brother Harry / Harold Saunders (1911 - 2000 ish) who had a daughter Linda, who married Tom Saunders?

The Burke's in my family married in to the Honeyballs, so this may be another avenue to explore.

There has always been stories passed down through my family that we originated from Romanies. However, despite finding a remote link through doing my family tree I have not found anything concrete.

The names I am researching are Harber (also spelt Harbar, Harbour and Harbor), who all seemed to live in the Surrey area throughout the 1800's.
